Overview
Contra is a browser extension that provides alternative perspectives on highlighted text. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Data Collection
Contra collects and processes the following data:
- Page Content: When you highlight text and click the Contra button, we read the text content of the current webpage to provide context for generating alternative perspectives.
- API Key: Your Anthropic API key is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. It is never sent to any server other than Anthropic's API.
- Conversation History: Chat conversations are stored temporarily in your browser's local storage during your session to maintain context for follow-up questions.
Data Usage
Your data is used solely to:
- Send the highlighted text and page context to Anthropic's Claude API to generate alternative perspectives
- Maintain conversation context for follow-up questions during your session
Data Sharing
We do not sell, transfer, or share your data with any third parties except:
- Anthropic: Page content and highlighted text are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. This is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Data Storage
All data is stored locally in your browser. No data is stored on our servers. When you uninstall the extension, all locally stored data is deleted.
Your Rights
You can:
- Clear your stored API key at any time through the extension popup
- Uninstall the extension to delete all locally stored data
